Introduction to IGNOAPS Scheme Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS) is an important step towards providing social security by the Government of India. This scheme comes under the National Social Assistance Program (NSAP), which was launched on 15 August 1995. The objective of this scheme is to provide financial assistance to senior citizens and others as mentioned below, who are 60 years of age or above and living Below Poverty Line (BPL). Features of IGNOAPS Scheme 1. Introduction and Evolution: ⨀ The scheme was launched on 15th August 1995. ⨀ Initially, the scheme was only available to senior citizens aged 65 years and above. ⨀ In the year 2011, the minimum age to avail the benefits under the scheme was reduced to 60 years.
