Introduction to IGNOAPS Scheme

Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS) is an important step towards providing social security by the Government of India. This scheme comes under the National Social Assistance Program (NSAP), which was launched on 15 August 1995.

1. Introduction and Evolution:

⨀ The scheme was launched on 15th August 1995.
⨀ Initially, the scheme was only available to senior citizens aged 65 years and above.
⨀ In the year 2011, the minimum age to avail the benefits under the scheme was reduced to 60 years.

At present the scheme consists of five sub-schemes as components: -

(a) Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS)
(b) Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme (IGNWPS)
(c) Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme (IGNDPS)
(d) National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS)

2. BENEFITS OF IGNOAPS:

⨀ Beneficiaries aged 60-79 years receive a pension of ₹200 per month.
⨀ Beneficiaries aged 80 years or above receive a pension of ₹500 per month.
⨀ Many state governments also provide additional pension at their level, which increases the total pension amount.

3. Eligibility to apply:

⨀ The applicant must be 60 years of age or above.
⨀ The applicant must be Below Poverty Line (BPL).
⨀ Must be a citizen of India.

Offline Application Process:

⨀ Applicants can obtain the application form by visiting their nearest Gram Panchayat or Block office.
⨀ The application form needs to be filled with correct information and required documents and submitted to the concerned office.
⨀ The required documents include age certificate, BPL card, Aadhaar card, bank account details, etc.

Online Application Process:

⨀ In some states, this facility is also available online.
⨀ Applicants can apply online by visiting NSAP through their state government website, concerned department or Umang app.
⨀ After registering on the website, the application form has to be filled and submitted online.
⨀ The required documents have to be scanned and uploaded.

1. Age proof (birth certificate, school certificate, or any other government document)
2. BPL card
3. Aadhar card, residence certificate, ration card
4. Bank account details
5. Passport size photograph, etc.
